During a conversation with a close Brother the other night, we lamented the fact that the cycles of life seem to be turning yet again and it feels as if this winter has been particularly dark, and not just the cycle of the sun. We spoke of the changing times and how crazy this culture has become. “Where have all the morals gone?” we asked each other. Is there still a place for Gentlemen that are mystics and men of honor and leadership anymore? I talked about how it had worried me and had affected my well being, both physical and mental. (More on that in another email). I mentioned how it may be time to ‘reinvent’ myself to draw out my admittedly stale creativity. Then I remembered a tweet that I saw about how deep love of someone or oneself requires that we attend thousands of funerals for those old selfs as we emerge with new selfs. Then it dawned on me that, like life, things are a cycle, including our cycles of reinvention. I don’t need to reinvent myself, I just need to adapt my new self to my mission and passion of leading and mentoring.
