As we roll into the New Year, I’m committed to my intention of creating more content, across all platforms I’m a part of. We talked about this last week with Intentions
But I didn’t tell you why. Here’s the “why”…. I discovered that while social media is a fantastic way to put a thought out there and get some eyeballs on it, it has a particular shelf life. About 4 minutes. That’s not a long time to keep your message out there.
I tried the ‘blog’ thing, but sometimes long form writing just isn’t the thing. I want a quick message, especially understanding our time compression and shortening attention spans these days. I tried a podcast and man, those are fun, but with a few hundred thousand out there, it’s a big field. And you spend a lot of time directing traffic to your content.
Then Substack came along. An email list we can use, for writers,by writers. Easy interface, and as they have evolved, they have added more and more products to get your message across. From subscription list, to podcast, to video. And you can do free and/or paid subscriptions.
We all have something to say. I subscribe to a LOT of email lists, I enjoy having perspectives of a lot of people and I like having them in a format and form that I can read when I want to. You’re probably thinking right now, “who would want to read what I have to write?” You’d be surprised. We all start out like that. You worry about open rates, the number of subscribers, etc, etc.
Then you realize you’re doing this for you, those that follow along are a blessing and they’re fortunate to be along on YOUR ride.
So just start. Today. Put your voice out there. Opinion, thoughts, or instruction on how to do something, just do it.
