As we head into the holiday season full force, it’s time to think about time. Yep, that commodity we never seem to have enough of and yet wonder where it all went when it’s gone. We sometimes secretly wish we could make time stand still. I’ll tell you how.
Take the time this holiday season to slow down. Or even stop. Just take in everything around you. quit worrying about the food, the clean house, the gifts, the drama and the need to have the perfect holiday, just have the damn holiday.
Stand still and take it all in. Then make it a memory. A good, solid memory. Journal it, photo it, video it but most importantly, remember it. Hold tight to that memory. You’ll want it and need it in the coming years.
Take the time to cherish being with people you love. “For we know not the number of our days nor the hour of our death.” It comes to us all, we just don’t know when. that’s the other thing that frustrates us about time. We can’t control it.
For me, I’m taking off next week and instead of rushing to Texas to be with family, in the midst of harried and hurried airports and lines and stress, I’m taking a road trip from Charleston, SC to Texas with my son to our family and friends in Texas. 15 or so hours each way in a car with him. He’s 27 now and we don’t talk as much as we should. So we’re going to do a dude’s road trip (bet your ass there will be a Buc-ees stop!)
We’re going to hunt with my father in law, his Grandfather, who turns 85 while we’re there. Yep, old man still hunts with the best of them. We don’t know if this is the last season for him or not, but we’re going to act like it is the last season for all of us. Just as we should treat every season and every day.
Enjoy your time this holiday season, and for the other seasons. Make the time to talk, to laugh, to just be.
This, my friends, is how to make Time Stand Still.
Editor’s Note: I’m taking off from writing, what little I do, after this Friday’s email drop. I’ll be back after the New Year and stand by for something interesting on You Tube from me. Thanks for reading and have a blessed and joyous holiday.
