I am likely showing my age by using the word ‘see saw’. You do know what I’m talking about, right?
Playground…teeter totter?
Ahhh, there you go…you remember.
Leadership is a lot like riding one of those now ancient playground rides.
Up and down.
See, yesterday was one of those days for me. I’m sure you’ve had them.
I had one team member that required ‘course correction’. Nothing overly tragic or extreme, just a slight change in their direction and some help navigating my expectations as a leader. And that’s a downer sometimes.
As a leader, we want ALL our charges to succeed. And do well, grow and advance.
On the other side of the balance, I got to praise and show appreciation for a team member that had exceeded expectations. gone above and beyond.
That’s a thrill for us as leaders, isn’t it?
I love showing praise and appreciation. Makes my job easy and fun.
Here’s the thing. We, as leaders, must learn to ride both sides of the leadership see saw and try to maintain that balance. It can’t always be fun, but it has to be done.
Go enjoy the ride.
Lead from the front!

By the way…did you enjoy this email? I hope so. Let me know and if you think you have someone who would enjoy these as well, why not give us recommendation?
Good morning Chief.
Good email. It got me thinking though. My saying is: “Good leaders are always learning. Great leaders are always returning.” Great leaders are always developing their people. They’re giving back. Sure it’s an awesome experience to celebrate the success of someone who is achieving, but where the leader really earns his pay is when he gets the opportunity to mentor and coach those who need help, guidance, and course correction. The opportunity to help change potential failure into a valuable, positive learning experience.
