Hello there! Spring has certainly sprung here in the mid-Atlantic region and it seems like it happened overnight.
We have Bradford pear and ornamental plum trees in our front yard and they seem like they went from bud to blossom to leaf in about 3 days. I guess warm temps and sun will anything feel more lively.
I’ve often wondered why we set our lives on a new direction with resolutions to change and grow every year in the middle of the darkest and dreariest time of the year, New Years Day. Smack in the middle of the solstice. Dark, cold and dead.
I love that time of year, too, don’t get me wrong. everything in its season and all that.
But why not make a life changing decision and resolve to ‘grow anew’ when the rest of the world does? Spring signals new life, new growth and a return to health and vitality after a long season of rest.
I personally choose to view this time of year as my new year. The native tribes used to measure the time by the seasons and the moons, so shall I.
No need to worry about a politician telling me when to change my clocks that way, eh?
By the way, I’m about halfway through my self-imposed Twitter and Facebook fast for Lent. Easter is coming soon, about 4 more weeks at this point. I have missed it some but have learned to utilize my time in better pursuits. More on that later.
Until next time, Semper Fortis
