QUITE!!!!
Listen..
Hear that? Yeah? Know what that is?
It’s your followers telling you that you ain’t hitting it just right. They’re trying to tell you, but you’re not listening. Leaders have to listen more than usual. Grow an extra pair of ears.
Leaders that will not listen to the team are putting themselves at a disadvantage. You can hear them but you better make sure you’re listening to what they say. Too many leaders look for the spotlight and love hearing what they say.
Now, I’m a communicative leader. I love talking to my team. When I have an all team meeting, it’s like a Van Halen concert meets a Billy Graham sermon. I love to teach and tell. But that’s only a part of my job.
The other part is to listen. Actively listen. Communicate, understand, comprehend and acknowledge what my team members are saying. Listen with empathy, listen to understand, listen to learn. How many great inventions have we missed through out history because some leader wouldn’t listen to the teams?
People love to be right, right up there with hearing their own names and own voices.
Ego is the biggest addiction problem in the workplace these days.
Take a hint from my friend Jon Rennie as he put it so well:
So hush up, listen up and lead up. And Lead Forward.
